We cannot be sure when the walled garden was first begun. It probably began
as the bourne or cattle yard for the original castle and first used as a
garden by the Daly family who came to Mornington in 1710.
We do know, however, that garden at Mornington was already laid out at the
time the first Ordnance Survey mapped the estate in 1834.
Guests can walk to Lough Derravaragh, shown the way
by Caspar and Cleo, our two dogs. The lake is where
the legendary Children of Lir spent 300 years of their
900 year exile.
